On Saturday, Jan. 25, the Michigan History Museum in Lansing celebrates 183 years of Michigan history at its annual Statehood Day celebration. The program runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free for the day.
Like every good birthday party, the celebration includes music, games, cake and other fun. Special guests, staff and volunteers will pay tribute to the people who created our state, from first peoples and statesmen to eager citizens.
Guests at this year’s celebration will:
- Learn the art of quilting with the Cotton Patchers of the Capitol City Quilt Guild.
- Enjoy live folk music from the Front Paige Band.
- Visit with the King's 8th British Regiment.
- View statehood documents including Michigan's first constitution.
- Learn how wool becomes clothing, churn butter and take part in other historical crafts and trades.
