DNR offers wild mushroom clinic June 30

Learn what it takes to get certified as an expert wild foraged mushroom identifier

The Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center, located in Mitchell State Park in Cadillac, will host the Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Skills Academy's first Wild Mushroom Clinic Sunday, June 30, starting at 10 a.m.

Outdoor enthusiasts Jill and Aaron Grenchik will instruct participants on the fundamentals required to become certified as an expert wild foraged mushroom identifier. After completion of this class, students will know what it takes to sell/distribute wild foraged mushrooms under Michigan law. It also will cover the proper handling techniques for transport, cleaning, consumption (including some sampling) and home preservation of wild mushrooms.

The cost for this class is $40, which includes lunch. Registration is required.
