ORV safety tips

Speed and reckless driving are the primary contributing factors for off-road vehicle accidents, with 24 percent of all ORV accidents reported in 2017 resulting from people driving too fast, and 16 percent of people not wearing a helmet.

With more riders hitting the trail – and more accidents happening – each year, it’s important to keep safety in mind when heading out on your ORV. Most ORV accidents can be avoided by following some safety tips, including:

  • Ride sober.
  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Ride at a safe speed.
  • Ride on the right side of the trail, and take it easy around corners.
  • Be familiar with the terrain.
  • Ride within your ORV’s limits.
  • See a full list of ORV safety tips at Michigan.gov/RideRight.
