Today marks an important date in Michigan’s history: the 100-year anniversary of the Michigan State Park Commission, which paved the way for today’s state parks system.
I personally invite you to explore and enjoy our state parks – your state parks – today, throughout the centennial year and into the future.
While the centennial celebrates the forward-thinking people who signed a document 100 years ago to protect these beautiful, natural places, this celebration is as much about the generations of Michiganders who’ve enjoyed one-of-a-kind visitor experiences there since 1919.
Michigan state parks are a significant driver of our state’s $26.6 billion outdoor recreation industry, welcoming 28 million visitors a year. They’re part of a thriving Pure Michigan tourism industry.
Come experience the adventure that awaits you in Michigan’s 103 state parks, and find your favorite way to celebrate at Michigan.gov/StateParks100.
Warmest regards, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
