Turkey hunting clinic – Saturday, April 13

The DNR Outdoor Skills Academy is offering a turkey hunting clinic Saturday, April 13 at the Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center in Cadillac. Running 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this introduction to turkey hunting will cover law, habitat, gear, calling and much more. Students will walk away with the knowledge they need to hunt turkeys on their own. The class will include both indoor and outdoor sessions, so participants are asked to dress for the weather.

Cost is $30, which includes lunch and door prizes. Participation is limited to 50 students. Register online for the turkey hunting clinic. For more information about this class, contact Ed Shaw at 231-779-1321 or shawe@michigan.gov.

Furbearer hunting and trapping

  • Coyote hunting season is open year-round, statewide.
  • Beaver and otter trapping seasons vary based on unit and your residency status. (See page 30 of the Fur Harvester Digest.)

Need a place to hunt? HAP lands available

There are private properties available to hunt through the Hunting Access Program – find a complete at Michigan.gov/HAP. The HAP webpage includes details about enrolled properties, including types of hunting allowed and aerial photos of the properties.

To find HAP properties and other places to hunt, use the DNR’s Mi-HUNT – a web-based, interactive mapping tool that shows approximate boundaries of lands (both public and private) that are open to public hunting. Get started at Michigan.gov/MiHUNT.
