Michigan Coastal Program awards community grants

The Coastal Management Program in the Michigan Office of the Great Lakes is awarding $841,244 in grant funds to community coastal partners for 15 local projects and statewide initiatives.

The funding will support efforts to protect, preserve, restore and enhance coastal resources along the nation’s longest freshwater coastline.

Projects include research on coastal ecosystems and best management practices, assisting communities with planning to address challenges, and providing resources to connect communities to their waters. Projects promote the ecological, economic and cultural value of Michigan’s coast.

This year, the Michigan Coastal Management Program celebrates 40 years of partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as part of a nationwide network of programs protecting America’s coasts.
