A Concert, Archaeology and Root Beer, Oh My!

Summer fun continues at Cambridge Junction Historic State Park!

Picnic on the Lawn Concert Series draws to a close, Aug. 9

Two men and two women with guitars and mandolins are standing together and laughing.

Have we saved the best for last? You be the judge as Turner Luce brings its eclectic mix of music to the north lawn of our Hewitt House Visitor Center on Thursday, August 9.

Turner Luce is Phil Camp on piano and fiddle, Mark Scott on guitar and vocals, Sally Mitani on mandolin and vocals, and Beverly Manko on bass. You'll be clapping your hands and stomping your feet as the band plays greats ranging from Bob Dylan to Django Reinhardt.

Bring a chair, a picnic and a friend to enjoy the third and final free concert of our 2018 season.

Park gates open at 5:30 p.m.; the concert lasts from 6 to 8 p.m. This program is weather permitting and will not be rescheduled. There is no charge to attend this show, but a Michigan State Parks Recreation Passport is required for park entry. Thanks to our Friends of Walker Tavern group for sponsoring this event.

Explore Archaeology, Aug. 15

A group of volunteers searches through dirt for artifacts during a 2016 archaeological dig near Walker Tavern.

There's still time to register for the final (and our most popular) kids' activity at Cambridge Junction Historic State Park!

Bring a child in your life (ages 5 to 15) and discover together the daily lives of the people who lived here long ago. We'll show you artifacts and interactive displays, and, of course, everybody will have fun trying their hand at using an atlatl - a spear-thrower used by Michigan's first peoples.

This program runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15. Cost is $10 per child; no charge for accompanying adult. Register now for Exploring Archaeology - deadline is August 10.

Walker Tavern Root Beer is back!

The label features a line drawing of Walker Tavern. The background of the label is black with white letters and green trim

Old-fashioned good times deserve old-fashioned root beer and so the Friends of Walker Tavern have brought back Walker Tavern Root Beer. It's great chilled or at room temp, right out of the bottle or in a glass with some ice cream.

Walker Tavern Root Beer is brewed and bottled by Frankenmuth Brewing Company. You can purchase it now by the bottle ($2), six-pack ($12) or case of 24 bottles ($42). Sales benefit events, activities and programs at Cambridge Junction Historic State Park, the home of Walker Tavern.
