Popular Two-Day Quilt Workshop Returns to Cambridge Junction

In our fast-paced world where all our material needs can be met with the click of a mouse, it’s nice to bring back the art of creating things yourself. For two days, you can disengage from the world of technology to learn the skills of quilting and sewing. The workshop offers a chance to slow down, build friendships, and experience the satisfaction of making something by hand. And this year the program has a fun twist!

“With the huge success we had with last year’s Quilt Workshop we decided to offer another workshop this year only with a slightly different twist,” noted Site Historian Laurie Perkins. “This year’s workshop will start later in the day and offer an evening meal catered by Stone’s Catering of Adrian.”

Located at the Hewitt House Visitors Center inside Cambridge Junction Historic State Park, the workshop will take place on Thursday, July 26 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The workshop is perfect for both beginners and experts. Anyone above the age of 15 years old interested in learning quilting and sewing is welcome, although those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Over the two days, participants will gain sewing and quilting experience by creating two projects. On Thursday everyone will assemble a sofa pillow from 2-inch squares and triangles. Friday’s creation is a table runner made from fabric gained at Thursday evening’s Game of Charms. Don’t know what a “charm” is? Charms are squares of fabric about 3 to 5 inches across. The game allows participants to collect enough squares to create their next project.

“This is an opportunity to enjoy the Hewitt House Visitor’s Center in a way that very few of our visitors ever have the chance to do,” noted Site Historian, Laurie Perkins.

Ticket price is $40 per person for the whole workshop and includes snacks, Thursday evening’s meal and project materials for both days. The registration form is available for download on the event page of the Cambridge Junction Historic State Park website.

For more information about the workshop, contact Laurie Perkins at 517-241-0731 or PerkinsL1@michigan.gov.
