The Michigan Department of Natural Resources invites area residents and others interested in the future of Detroit's riverfront to provide input on plans for Milliken State Park and Harbor. The first of several public meetings to develop a new master plan for the park will be held Wednesday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center, 1801 Atwater St. in Detroit.

"With the success of the Outdoor Adventure Center, the renewed interest in the East Riverfront District, the expansion of the Detroit Riverwalk, the ongoing programs at Belle Isle, plus the two added parcels of land recently acquired, we want to work with the community to create a relevant vision for Milliken State Park," said Ron Olson, DNR Parks and Recreation Division chief. "Your input is important to us in creating the future park."

As it updates the park’s long-range improvement plan, the DNR is looking for ideas about:

  • What makes Milliken unique and different from other riverfront places?
  • What works well right now?
  • What new and expanded activities could occur?
  • How can Milliken connect to other riverfront places and to neighborhoods?

Everyone is invited. Staff members from the DNR and the planning team will be available to answer questions and listen to ideas during the informal meeting.

Additional information on the DNR’s management plan process can be found at michigan.gov/parkmanagementplans
