Historic Mann House offers free walking tour, ‘Picnic on the Lawn’ concert Saturday

exterior photo of Victorian Mann HouseSummer fun stretches from afternoon into evening at Mann House, a Victorian home located in Concord, Michigan. On Saturday, July 22, Mann House is the starting point of a downtown walking tour and, afterward, hosts a musical concert on its grounds. All activities are free of charge.

From 4 to 5 p.m., staff at the Mann House will lead a walking tour of downtown Concord, a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

"Mann House is part of a vibrant community," said site historian Laurie Perkins. "The walking tour allows us to introduce our visitors to the history and architecture of some of our neighbors."

The walking tour includes 10 points of interest and lasts approximately one hour.

Local gospel and bluegrass artists Acoustic Strings will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. in the west yard of the Mann House. Historically, Mann House was no stranger to midsummer celebrations with music and friends.

"The Mann sisters, Mary Ida and Jessie, often entertained their friends with evening musicals around the home’s upright piano," said Perkins. "Now, we invite our visitors to bring a picnic lunch, a lawn chair and a friend to enjoy music under the shade of our magnificent walnut trees."

The walking tour and concert will take place weather permitting.

During the 2017 summer season, visitors can tour the Mann House Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 3. Admission is free.

The Mann House is a nationally accredited museum located at 205 Hanover St. in the village of Concord, 12 miles west of Jackson via M-60. For more information, call 517-241-0731 or visit www.michigan.gov/mannhouse.
