Farmers market at Walker Tavern Historic Site opens for season May 28
The farmers market at Walker Tavern Historic Site near Brooklyn, Michigan, opens for the 2017 season Sunday, May 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Farmers market visitors can receive a free market shopping bag, courtesy of the Friends of Walker Tavern group, while supplies last.
The largest local outdoor farmers market in the area, the market at Walker Tavern Historic Site features more than 60 vendors. David Brainerd, market master, looks forward to another great year.
“We are expecting a great mix of new and returning vendors to greet our farmers market visitors on opening day,” Brainerd said. “Word continues to spread about the farmers market here at Walker Tavern. It is popular with vendors and shoppers alike.”
This summer, farmers market Sundays include events sponsored by the Friends of Walker Tavern:
- Raptor Day (June 4)
- Vintage "base ball" games (June 25 and Aug. 27)
- Walker On Wheels car show (Aug. 6)
- Lost Arts demonstrations (Aug. 20)
- Eagle Day (Sept. 17)
There is even more enjoyment Sundays at Walker Tavern Historic Site, said site historian Laurie Perkins.
"Tour Walker Tavern and its historic barn," Perkins said, "or bring a picnic and enjoy the great outdoors in the grill area."
The farmers market at Walker Tavern Historic Site will be open most Sundays through Oct. 8. The farmers market will be closed on race days at Michigan International Speedway, June 18 and Aug. 13.
