DNR cancels upcoming agates show at Muskallonge Lake State Park
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced the “Rock On with Lake Superior Agates” rock show scheduled for Sept. 10-11 at Muskallonge State Park in northern Luce County has been canceled.
The popular two-day agate show features a range of presenters, musical entertainment, food and vendors. Organizers held the eighth annual show in September 2015.
The cancelation is necessary because of ongoing construction activities begun in May to replace a park electrical system determined to be unsafe.
“It was anticipated that the project would be complete in time to host the ‘Rock on with Lake Superior Agates’ rock show,” said Jim Dzelak, supervisor at Muskallonge Lake State Park. “Unfortunately, areas of the campground will remain closed through the 2016 camping season.”
Alternate locations and means to hold the event were explored, but none were attainable or able to accommodate the full scale of the agate show.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Dzelak said. “We thank our customers and park visitors for their patience as we work through these critical repairs to provide a safe camping experience.”
The show is expected to return to the park next September. For campers with questions on reservations at any of Michigan’s state parks, contact the DNR’s parks call center at 1-800-447-2757 or 1-800-44PARKS.
