DNR Pontiac Lake shooting range to close weekdays, Aug. 15 to Sept. 9, for handgun range construction
The Department of Natural Resources Pontiac Lake shooting range in Oakland County, Michigan, will be closed weekdays, Aug. 15 through Sept. 9, for construction of a new handgun range.
The shooting range will remain open Saturdays and Sundays during this time, and its normal hours of operation will resume Sept. 10.
The new handgun range will feature five new accessible handgun shooting stations with structural sound-abatement engineering. As part of this project, the DNR also will be making accessibility improvements, including additional accessible parking spaces near the shooting stations and new walkways, installing an additional concrete pad area behind the 100-yard shooting stations to help ease congestion, and building an earthen backstop berm for current and future range developments.
The construction project was made possible through funding from the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act with assistance from the National Rifle Association Public Range Grant Program.
The DNR Pontiac Lake shooting range is located at 7800 Gale Road in Waterford, inside Pontiac Lake Recreation Area. For more information, visit www.michigan.gov/shootingranges.
