Celebrate Michigan Boating Week June 4-11
Michigan is a boater's paradise. With almost 3,300 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 11,000+ inland lakes and 36,350 miles of rivers and streams, residents and visitors are never farther than 6 miles from a lake or stream. Top it off with access to more than 150 species of fish, and you've got an unbeatable range of freshwater boating experiences to choose from.
Enjoy Michigan’s plentiful on-the-water opportunities during Michigan Boating Week June 4-11. The weeklong celebration concludes on National Marina Day June 11.

Be the captain of boating etiquette
As with most outdoor recreational pursuits, there are written and unwritten rules to help assure that everyone gets to enjoy lake living. Whether you are a recreational boater, angler, swimmer or kayaker - it's good to remember that everyone shares the water.
Take the time to learn about boating etiquette by asking neighbors or fellow boaters about the customs and traditions on each lake. Often times there are rules of etiquette that may unofficially designate particular places as no wake, slow wake or swimming areas, as well as spots to avoid to help protect important fishing beds or bird species. These rules of etiquette likely will not be posted, but known and understood by those who visit and use the lake.
While it may feel like you’re the captain of your nautical domain, remember that a little consideration for your fellow boater can go a long way toward avoiding any misunderstandings, conflicts or development of new laws and ordinances, which may affect the type of boating you enjoy most.
