Spend time participating in outdoor activities with events in southwestern Michigan state parks

Lace up your shoes and get outdoors at Michigan state parks and recreation areas. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources invites visitors to participate in a number of events taking place in southwestern Michigan, all designed to take advantage of the warmer weather.

Vintage Camping Weekend
Hoffmaster State Park (Muskegon County)
Saturday, June 11

Campers and day-use visitors are invited to learn about camping "back in the day." With more than 90 vintage campers and RVs camping in the park, visitors will get a firsthand look at the evolution of camping and several generations of camping innovation. For more information, contact the park at 231-798-3711.

MI Big Green Gym

The MI Big Green Gym program is a partnership among the DNR, mParks (Michigan Recreation and Park Association), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and local fitness instructors. The goal is to put the “out” back into workout by hosting fun outdoor programs like yoga, Pilates, strength training, cardio and more in parks across Michigan. This program also promotes fitness-focused events like 5Ks, sporting tournaments and bicycle rides. For more information and to view a list of statewide events, visit www.mibiggreengym.org

Beach YogaGreat Lakes Beach Yoga
Muskegon State Park (Muskegon County)
Wednesdays June 1-Aug. 31

Meet Diana of Serene Yoga at Muskegon State Park’s Channel Beach where she will host weekly yoga classes at 10:30 a.m. Classes cost $10 per day (monthly rates also available). For more information, call 231-343-8381.

Step into Summer 5K Trail Run & Kids Dash
Van Buren State Park (Van Buren County)
Saturday, June 11

South Haven Public Schools, with the assistance of the Maple Grove Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, once again will host this fun fundraising event. Enjoy running and walking on picturesque trails along Lake Michigan. The first race starts at 9 a.m. Participants can register at www.runsignup.com. For more information, email maxwellhouse@i2k.com.

Soccer in the Sand
Grand Haven State Park (Ottawa County)
Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26

Soccer enthusiasts are invited to come play or watch this two-day 5 vs. 5 beach soccer tournament. Brackets will be created for boys and girls (ages 8-18), adult and co-ed teams. Create your team today and register at www.soccerinthesand.com.
