Volunteers needed for Belle Isle Park's annual spring cleanup April 23

Volunteers cleaning up at Belle Isle.Volunteers are invited to roll up their sleeves in celebration of Earth Day at Belle Isle Park's annual spring cleanup Saturday, April 23, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will rake leaves and remove trash and debris from the Detroit island park.

Those helping are asked to check in at 8 a.m. at the Flynn Pavilion where they'll receive site assignments. (The Flynn Pavilion is located just east of the casino, near the intersection of Picnic Way and Loiter Way, as shown on this map.)

Volunteers should dress for the weather (wear work boots and gloves) and, if possible, bring lawn rakes or any other preferred tools. Following cleanup, the Belle Isle Conservancy will (from noon to 1 p.m. at the Flynn Pavilion) provide refreshments as a thank you to participants.

The spring cleanup, coordinated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Belle Isle Conservancy, provides an opportunity for individuals, families and groups to contribute to the beautification of Belle Isle. Certificates for earned community service credit will be distributed on site.

Volunteers are not required to have a Recreation Passport to enter the park during the event, although Recreation Passports will be available for purchase during event registration at the Flynn Pavilion.

Groups of 15 or more are asked to pre-register by contacting Genevieve Nowak at nowakg@belleisleconservancy.org or 313-334-7053. For more information about the cleanup event, visit www.belleisleconservancy.org.
