Fletcher Pond public boat launch to temporarily close for repair
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced the public boating access site at Fletcher Pond in Alpena County will temporarily be closed while DNR staff replaces damaged ramp planks.
The repair work, expected to take up to three weeks to complete, will start as soon as weight restrictions are lifted and repair equipment can be moved into place. The actual reopening date will be announced later, as the work nears completion. In the meantime, there are several private boat launches nearby.
Fletcher Pond is well-known for its monster pike, bass and many perch and pan fish. Many geese and ducks use the pond as a resting area and more than 25 nesting platforms help create one of the highest concentrations of nesting ospreys in Michigan, making it a birder’s paradise.
