DNR to provide shooting range updates at March 10 meeting in Traverse City
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will host a meeting Thursday, March 10, in Traverse City to give progress updates and get further public input on three proposed shooting range locations in Grand Traverse County. The public meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at the East Bay Township Hall, 1965 North Three Mile Road.
DNR staff will share:
Starting Thursday, March 3, hard copies of the acoustical report will be available for review at the East Bay, Union, Whitewater and Fife Lake township offices. To ensure the report's availability for those interested in seeing it, the copies cannot be removed from township offices.
Public input gathered at the March 10 meeting will be instrumental in determining the final selection of a range site in Grand Traverse County.
“This public meeting opportunity is the next important step in choosing the right site – one that meets the collective needs of the surrounding community and neighboring landowners,” said Dave Lemmien, the DNR's Traverse City Forest Management Unit manager. “We look forward to sharing the results of the scientific studies we’ve completed, and hearing residents’ response to that information.”
Following the meeting, the DNR will accept written comments via email through Friday, March 18. Comments should be sent to Lori Burford, DNR shooting range analyst, at burfordl@michigan.gov. The department expects to make a decision on the final range location by the end of March.
Anyone seeking more information about the March 10 meeting or needing accommodations to participate in the meeting should contact Lori Burford at the DNR Customer Service Center in Roscommon at 989-275-5151, ext. 2100.
