DNR to host open house Nov. 12 on Ludington State Park planning
The Department of Natural Resources will host an open house Thursday, Nov. 12, to hear public input on a new draft General Management Plan for Ludington State Park in Mason County, Michigan. The open house will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ludington Public Library, 217 E Ludington Ave. in Ludington.
The General Management Plan for Ludington State Park State Park defines a long-range (10- to 20-year) planning and management strategy that will assist the DNR Parks and Recreation Division in meeting its responsibilities to protect and preserve the site’s natural and cultural resources, and to provide access to land- and water-based public recreation and educational opportunities. This public meeting will begin with a short presentation of the draft plan. The public is welcome to attend at any time during the open house to review the planning material, provide comments and speak with DNR staff. Comments can be made until Nov. 19 by emailing park supervisor Jim Gallie at galliej@michigan.gov or DNR park management plan administrator Deb Jensen at jensend1@michigan.gov.

The 5,300-acre state park is situated north of Ludington between Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake, and includes several miles of shoreline and beaches on both bodies of water. The park offers a variety of recreational opportunities including camping at one of three modern campgrounds, hike-in rustic camping, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, swimming and boating. The park features scenic sand dunes, marshlands and forest, and is home to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse. Learn more about Ludington State Park at www.michigan.gov/ludington.
