Lake Huron Discovery Tour features events at Michigan state parks Oct. 9-12
The Northeast Michigan Council of Governments and Michigan Department of Natural Resources invite the public to visit the sunrise side of the state with a weekend of organized events on the Lake Huron Discovery Tour. This tour weekend features many natural and cultural resources along the U.S. 23 Heritage Route, giving visitors a taste of everything the 200-mile route has to offer and encouraging them to explore it for themselves.
Here’s a list of events at northeastern Michigan state parks during the Lake Huron Discovery Tour:
Thursday, Oct. 8-Sunday, Oct. 11
Lighthouse Festival at Tawas State Park (Iosco County): Come enjoy the 21st annual celebration of Great Lakes lighthouses. Lighthouses along Lake Huron will open their doors for tours and to greet guests from around the world. For more information, visit lighthousefestival.org.
Friday, Oct. 9
Stargazing at Negwegon State Park (Alcona County): Enjoy a night outdoors under the sky during a special Dark Sky presentation. Dark Sky program director of the Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Emmet County, Mary Stewart Adams, will be the guest speaker and host. Friday, Oct. 9-Saturday, Oct. 10
Haunted Halloween Weekend at Harrisville State Park (Alcona County): Families and friends of all ages are invited to celebrate the Halloween season with outdoor games, trick-or-treating, a site-decorating contest, a haunted hayride and more. For more information, contact the park at 989-724-7600.
