'Touch the Truck' coming to Van Riper State Park Aug. 29 in Marquette County
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering a "Touch the Truck" event later this month at Van Riper State Park.
DNR staff and their trucks will be at the park’s day-use area from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Van Riper State Park is located south of U.S. 41 and just west of the village of Champion in Marquette County.
“This event will not only allow the public to get up close and personal to see trucks and equipment DNR staff use on a daily basis but will also offer an opportunity to talk with DNR personnel and ask questions about their everyday job tasks,” said Melanie Brand of Van Riper State Park.
Among the vehicles on display will be backhoes and dump trucks, animal trap and transport trucks and equipment, and conservation officer patrol vehicles. Trading cards depicting some of the vehicles and their capabilities will be available.
DNR law enforcement, wildlife and parks and recreation staff will be answering questions.
Visitors to the event do not have to be registered campers. The public is welcome.
For more information on this event, contact Melanie Brand at brandm2@michigan.gov or 906-339-4461.
There is no charge to participate in the event, but a Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry to Van Riper State Park.
A Recreation Passport grants vehicle access to any Michigan state park, boat launch, state forest campground or nonmotorized state trailhead parking. Residents can purchase the Passport for just $11 ($5 for motorcycles) at the time of Michigan license plate renewal through Secretary of State. Forgot to check “YES” during renewal? Residents and nonresidents can purchase a Recreation Passport window sticker during regular business hours at state parks.
