DNR warns multiple trails in Kalkaska and Grand Traverse counties
closed due to damage from recent storms
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources warns trail and forest users that the following trails are closed due to damage from storms earlier this month:
- Grand Traverse Motorcycle Trail in Grand Traverse County
- Leetsville ORV Trail in Kalkaska County
- Muncie Lake Pathway in Grand Traverse County
- Skegemog Swamp Pathway in Kalkaska County
“Downed trees and other trail obstructions have made these areas unsafe for people to use,” said Dave Lemmien, DNR unit manager for the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. “We are urging folks avoid these areas until we are able to get them cleared of debris.”
DNR staff is assessing the damage and will work with local trail grant sponsors and volunteers to best mitigate the hazards. Trail segments will be reopened once staff is able to assess the damage and clear the areas.
There are numerous trail opportunities in northern Michigan. Explore alternative trail routes at www.michigan.gov/dnrtrails.
