Hello Immunization Partners,

Please share the following information with your providers

Recently, we have received questions regarding the ancillary supplies that come with your COVID-19 vaccines. People are reporting that they have a surplus and are asking what they can do with extra supplies. Here is the guidance that we received from CDC:

  • First, please make sure you ‘opt-out’ of ancillaries when ordering COVID-19 vaccines to avoid overstock:
    • How to Opt-Out of an COVID-19 Vaccine Ancillary Kit (link to instructions)
    • Be sure to contact your local health department at the time the vaccine order is placed!
    • The opt-out option is not currently available for pediatric COVID-19 vaccine because diluent is part of the kit
  • The use of surplus ancillaries for other immunization work (seasonal flu for example) if the supplies are appropriate (needle/syringe size) is encouraged
  • Clinics may transfer surplus to other clinics if they have a need
  • Donations to other providers are allowed but must be domestic (these supplies are not for use overseas)
  • The supplies may be disposed of if no other options for use exist

Thank you for all you do in the prevention of vaccine preventable diseases in the State of Michigan.
