DEQ announces new recycling specialists
March 31, 2015
The DEQ recently hired four new recycling specialists to help Michigan reach Gov. Rick Snyder’s goal of doubling residential recycling rates.
Brian Burke, Elizabeth Garver, Emily Freeman and Katie Venechuck are based around the state to provide on-the-ground assistance. Their first tasks include providing technical assistance to communities and businesses as they work to increase access and participation in curbside and drop-off recycling programs. They are also working to educate residents and businesses on how and where to recycle.
Additionally, the four Recycling Specialists are helping to spread the message to local leaders that recycling is as good for the environment as it is for Michigan’s economy. They are promoting the Community Pollution Prevention Grants available to help grow recycling at the local level. Also, they are working on developing the upcoming Governor’s Recycling Summit, which will be held May 5 in Kalamazoo.
The DEQ is excited to welcome these four experienced, knowledgeable individuals with a strong desire to return Michigan to a leadership position in recycling.
