EGLE’s updated Water Withdrawal Assessment Tool launching this fall
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is excited to announce upcoming enhancements to the Water Withdrawal Assessment Tool (WWAT), an online resource that helps evaluate the impact of proposed large quantity water withdrawals and streamlines the registration process.
The updated WWAT will roll out in two phases:
- Phase 1 – September 22, 2025: Applicants will be able to assess proposed withdrawals using an unconfined aquifer system.
- Phase 2 – Early 2026: Additional functionality will allow users to assess withdrawals using semi-confined and two-layer aquifer systems.
These updates are designed to improve the user experience and introduce new capabilities, including the option to select the most appropriate aquifer type for the site. The tool also supports more accurate depletion estimates by allowing users to submit site-specific parameters, this first release will include the ability to use site-specific Transmissivity and Storativity.
To access the updated WWAT, users must have a MiLogin account—the State of Michigan’s secure login platform.
Support materials and user guidance will be made available ahead of each phase to help users navigate the updated system.
