Public comment period extended to October 31, 2025,
on proposed hazardous waste license for
Wayne Disposal landfill, Van Buren Township
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy’s (EGLE), Materials Management Division is extending the public comment period on the proposed hazardous waste operating license for Republic Service’s Wayne Disposal Inc. landfill in Van Buren Township. To allow the public additional time to review the draft license and submit comments, the comment period has been extended to October 31, 2025.
Review the Draft License
The draft license, application, and associated materials are available online and paper copies are also available at the Belleville Area District Library at 167 Fourth Street, Belleville.
Public Meeting and Hearing
The previously announced public meeting will still be held on September 18, 2025. EGLE and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) staff will be available during the open house period from 5-6 p.m. for informal discussion. A presentation on the draft license will begin at 6 p.m. and EGLE and U.S. EPA staff will answer questions from the public. The formal hearing will begin at 7 p.m. for the public to make comments on the draft license.
