Effective May 5, 2025: Michigan's Hazardous Waste Rules Amended
Amendment 13 to the administrative rules promulgated under Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (Act 451), were filed with the Office of the Great Seal and are effective on May 5, 2025.
Content
The revisions relate to:
- The modernization of test methodology for ignitable liquids.
- Hazardous waste exemptions.
- Safe management of recalled air bags.
- Changes to Canadian import/export recovery and disposal codes.
- Commingling of hazardous waste.
- Groundwater monitoring.
- Test methods for standards to control organic emissions.
- Pharmaceutical wastes from healthcare.
- Electronic nicotine delivery systems from retailers.
- Consistency with other state rules.
Availability
The Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (MOAHR), has published the revisions (MOAHR 2023-5 EQ) in the Michigan Register at Michigan.gov/ARD. Copies of the consolidated rules, a cover page and table of contents, and the rules in strike/bold format are also available on the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Materials Management Division (MMD), Hazardous Waste Program website at Statutes and Rules.
