New asbestos laws and new asbestos notification platform to take effect in 2025
New Michigan asbestos laws will take effect on April 2, 2025. To support this change, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Air Quality Division will transition the submittal of the Notification of Intent to Renovate/Demolish form to a new online platform, MiEnviro Portal (MiEnviro) at the end of March 2025.
New asbestos fee
The new laws enhance public safety and health by further managing asbestos-related activities. Demolition and removal activities will now have associated fees. Owners or operators submitting a notice of intention for asbestos removal or demolition must pay a $100 notification fee and a $10 modification fee for each notification revision. Fees must be paid electronically and will be paid through MiEnviro.
New notification platform
MiEnviro will launch for asbestos users at the end of March 2025. The portal will replace the current Asbestos Notification System (ANS) for required notifications. Fees associated with notifications will be collected through MiEnviro.
