Arbor Hills Landfill: Two air permit applications open for comment
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is holding a public comment period for Arbor Hills Landfill located at 10611 West 5 Mile Road in Northville, Michigan. Two air permit applications have been submitted associated with operations at the landfill, No. APP-2022-0214 to install and operate a renewable natural gas plant and APP-2022-0215 for treatment and restriction of landfill gas burned in the existing turbines.
Facilities requesting to install equipment like this must have an air permit to limit the emissions of air pollutants and to ensure the request will meet air quality standards, including health-based standards. The conditions in an air permit include things such as limiting air emissions and installing and operating equipment in ways to best protect public health and the environment. An air permit would also include testing of equipment to make sure all requirements are met.
A draft air permit is written with these standards in mind, however there are many instances when input from the public creates valuable and important changes to a permit, if and when it is approved.
The public is encouraged to review information about the requested changes and proposed air permit. Comments may be given at any time before the end of the comment period on May 22.
