Rule revisions can take years to develop and move through the rulemaking process. This process includes research, writing, stakeholder working groups, revisions, public comment, and approval. The Part 6 rule revisions have been through the public comment process and are in the last stages of being finalized.
The rule revisions may impact you if you are an existing source of VOC emissions, prior to March 2023, in an ozone nonattainment area. Source types include surface coating operations, consumer products, architectural and industrial maintenance (AIM) coatings, printing, oil and natural gas, and more. More information on nonattainment can be found on the ozone nonattainment webpage and in the ozone frequently asked questions.
In preparation for the Part 6 rule promulgation, the proposed revisions, timelines, and guidance for affected sources have been posted on AQD’s Laws and Rules webpage. Further guidance and answers to frequently asked questions will be shared as they become available.
If you have questions about these proposed rules, contact Marissa Vaerten at VaertenM@Michigan.gov, or Trace McDonald at McdonaldT@Michigan.gov.
