Register today for Drinking Water Operator spring training!
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is offering several Drinking Water Operator courses this spring. All courses will be offered in a virtual format and will offer continuing education credits. Please visit Michigan.gov/EGLEevents to see the course descriptions for more detailed information about each course.
This series is offered to drinking water operators and personnel associated with F-Class drinking water treatment plants in the State of Michigan. Sessions will include Basic Math, Rules and Regulations, and Source Water; Coagulation, Mixing, Flocculation, and Sedimentation; Coagulation Dosage Calculations, Disinfection, Fluoridation; Filtration and Problems; Direct Filtration, Membrane Filtration, and Lab Analysis; Chemical Feed Systems; Operator Duties and Ethics, Water Storage, and Pumping Systems; and, Corrosion Control. It is recommended that you participate in all eight sessions and before the first session, individuals should be comfortable with basic math calculations and fluent in water chemistry.
The Michigan Lead and Copper Rule Series will focus on assisting community water systems that are required to conduct lead and copper sampling during 2022. The first webinar will explain requirements for site selection and sampling plans for Lead and Copper monitoring. The second webinar will explain requirements for site sampling for Lead and Copper compliance monitoring. The third webinar will explain requirements and deadlines for reporting Lead and Copper drinking water results after a scheduled monitoring round is complete.
The Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) is now over five years old. This webinar will include an overview of the RTCR and explain where to find online reference materials to help community water supplies. Whether you are an experienced operator or just starting out, this will be a good opportunity to refresh your memory or prepare for the operator exam.
Membrane filtration, unlike conventional water treatment technologies, relies on a physical size exclusion process to remove pathogens and particulates. This results in unique regulatory and operational best practices that drinking water plant staff should be familiar with. Attendees will learn the basics of low-pressure membrane operations and maintenance practices, required integrity tests and monitoring, as well as how to avoid common data integrity issues.
