The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is offering several Drinking Water Operator courses this winter and spring. All courses will be offered in a virtual format and will offer continuing education credits. Learn how cross connections affect public health, the potential risks and liabilities, how to conduct surveys and carry out corrective actions, the two types of hydraulic conditions that cause backflow, and backflow prevention assemblies and their applications.
This course will address topics including chlorination, fluoridation, phosphate/corrosion control, safety, oxidation filtration, hydraulics, pumps, wells, ethics, miscellaneous treatment, ion exchange softening, bacti methods, monitoring/reporting, and rules and regulations.
This webinar will provide a brief overview of the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) Rule and will update attendees on all new requirements of the regulation, including data and language requirements, and options for direct delivery. The second part of this training will provide guidance on making CCRs more understandable for consumers. We will discuss “readability” of a CCR, highlight considerations for developing a CCR, and present examples of ways to improve reports.
This session will discuss common emergencies surface water treatment plants face, lessons learned, and best practices from several emergency response case studies. Attendees will also learn the emergency response plan and reporting requirements under the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act.
This online course includes three sessions and is offered to allow water utility personnel an opportunity to acquire basic information in the subjects important to distribution systems. This course includes topics such as water mains, pipeline appurtenances, safety, regulations and rules, meters, cross connections, maintenance, and other distribution system related topics.
March 22, 24, April 5, 7, 12, 14, 26, 28 Drinking Water Treatment Series ($80 for all Sessions)
This series is offered to drinking water operators and personnel associated with F-Class drinking water treatment plants in the State of Michigan. Sessions will include Basic Math, Rules and Regulations, and Source Water; Coagulation, Mixing, Flocculation, and Sedimentation; Coagulation Dosage Calculations, Disinfection, Fluoridation; Filtration and Problems; Direct Filtration, Membrane Filtration, and Lab Analysis; Chemical Feed Systems; Operator Duties and Ethics, Water Storage, and Pumping Systems; and, Corrosion Control.
The Michigan Lead and Copper Rule Series will focus on assisting community water systems that are required to conduct lead and copper sampling during 2022. The first webinar will explain requirements for site selection and sampling plans for Lead and Copper monitoring. The second webinar will explain requirements for site sampling for Lead and Copper compliance monitoring. The third webinar will explain requirements and deadlines for reporting Lead and Copper drinking water results after a scheduled monitoring round is complete.
The Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) is now over five years old. This webinar will include an overview of the RTCR and explain where to find online reference materials to help community water supplies. Whether you are an experienced operator or just starting out, this will be a good opportunity to refresh your memory or prepare for the operator exam.
