Updated air reporting guidance for municipal solid waste landfills
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's Air Quality Division (AQD) has recently released guidance on how to notify the AQD if a municipal solid waste landfill is electing to comply with the requirements of MACT AAAA.
Some landfills are subject to other federal regulations like the New Source Performance Standards XXX or the Federal Plan Requirements for Municipal Solid Waste Landfills. These landfills may choose to opt-in to the requirements of 40 CFR Part 63, Subpart AAAA, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants: Municipal Solid Waste Landfills (MACT AAAA) prior to the effective date of September 27, 2021. If a landfill chooses to opt-in, the facility may no longer be required to meet other existing conditions.
Details on how to opt-in and what information should be reported can be found in the MACT AAAA Opt-In Notification for Municipal Solid Waste Landfills guidance.
Questions about the guidance may be sent to Gina McCann at McCannG2@Michigan.gov or 989-439-2282.
