JB Sims Generating Station/Harbor Island Environmental Investigation Update
In July, as part of the JB Sims Generating Station/Harbor Island PFAS investigation, two new surface water samples were collected. The sample results were submitted to the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) on August 4, 2021. All analytical results are summarized below and in the linked figure to the right.

Results indicate that the North Wetland 3 sample was above surface water quality standards for PFOS. This is the third sample collected from the North Wetland that is in exceedance of surface water quality standards. The third sample collected from the East Wetland was not in exceedance of surface water quality standards.

Twenty-two groundwater monitoring points are actively being installed to help better understand environmental conditions on the island. This information will be used to help develop a remedial strategy for the island.
