Michigan Potash requests air permit for new plant in Osceola County
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has opened a public comment period on a draft air permit for a new salt and potash manufacturing facility being proposed by Michigan Potash in Osceola County. The opportunity for the public to submit comments will be open until October 18. An online informational session and public hearing will be held on October 7, 2021, to talk to residents about what Michigan Potash is proposing, answer questions from the community, and to take comments on the record.

Companies who make salt and potash must have an air permit to limit the emissions of air pollutants and to ensure a company, like Michigan Potash, will meet air quality standards. These include things like limiting air emissions and installing and operating equipment in ways to best protect public health and the environment. An air permit would also include testing of equipment to make sure all of the requirements are met.
A draft air permit is written with these things in mind, however there are many instances when input from the public creates valuable and important changes to a permit, if and when it is approved.
The public is encouraged to review information about the proposed plant and draft air permit. The project summary will give a good overview of Michigan Potash’s request, the contents of the draft permit, and what this may mean to local residents. You do not need to attend the online meeting to provide input on the proposed permit. Comments may be given at any time before the end of the comment period on October 18.
How can I provide comments?
