The Water Shutoff Restoration Act ends March 31, 2021. Here are programs available to help Michiganders stay connected.
MSHDA CERA Program: Water Utility Assistance for Renters
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) administers the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) Program through its network of local nonprofit agencies. This program not only helps with rent but also water and energy bills. To learn more about eligibility and how to apply, please visit the MSHDA website:
SER: Water Utility Assistance for Non-Renters
Help may be available to people having trouble paying their water and energy bills through the State Emergency Relief (SER) Program. SER may help low-income households pay part of their water, heating, and electric bills, assist in keeping utilities in service, or have service restored if they are facing extreme hardship or emergencies threatening their health an safety.
Call your local Department of Health and Human Services office for information or apply at the MI Bridges website. If a household needs additional help applying, there are hundreds of community partners trained to assist them with MiBridges . Households must apply for SER assistance prior to receiving any MEAP services. There are several energy assistance programs for eligible senior citizens and low-income customers.
