December 2020 Spartan Chemical Company excavation pilot study update
The excavation pilot study is well underway at the Spartan Chemical Superfund Site. The excavation is complete in 3 of the 4 pilot test areas. These areas have been backfilled with clean sand. Additional sand will be added along with topsoil to achieve final grade during final site restoration between now and Spring of 2021. The erection of the construction tent over Area 2B has been completed. The City of Wyoming Fire Marshal and Building Inspector were onsite on December 7, 2020 to inspect the tent structure. Excavation of this final area began on December 8, 2020. Volatile Organic Compound’s have been able to be controlled in ambient air so far in all excavation areas by the various vapor suppression technologies that are being tested. The excavation of contaminated soil is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
