EGLE to host Catalyst Communities Kick-off Webinar November 19th to help community leaders respond to climate change
On Sept. 23, 2020, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Michigan’s Mi Healthy Climate Plan. The plan targets achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and helping Michigan communities become more resilient to climate change. The plan serves to protect Michigan resident’s public health, to protect the environment, and to help develop new clean energy jobs as Michigan moves toward becoming carbon neutral.
To reach these goals, the Michigan Department of Energy, Great Lakes and Environment (EGLE), Office of Climate and Energy (OCE), is coordinating a multi-tier curriculum with other federal, state and local partners, that will help communities adapt to local impacts from climate change, mitigate harm from climate change, and implement clean energy solutions. Participation in the academy is free. Register now to join us for our Kick-Off Academy.

Communities across Michigan are experiencing high water events, extreme temperature, increases in rainfall, and changes in agricultural and natural systems which are impacting the welfare of our State's residents and upending everyday business. Though these events span the state, localized impacts have--and will continue to--profoundly affect health, safety and quality of life in every local community. To help communities better prepare for increased frequency and ferocity of weather disruptions, we have launched the Catalyst Communities initiative, which provides information, training, and resources to suit every community’s unique needs.
In this kick-off event, leaders from across the State of Michigan will share work underway to enhance the resilience of Michiganders. Attendees will learn about resources that can help advance local and regional resilience, stories of how state agencies are integrating resilience into their operations, and the stories of efforts to enhance resilience in some Michigan communities. Attendees will also learn more about a new cohort-based training program that will guide participants through the creation of a resilience and localized decarbonization plan.
