The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) opened a public comment period for AmeriTi’s proposed air permit application on July 1, 2020. Public comment will remain open until August 14, 2020.
AmeriTi, located at 19300 Filer Avenue in Detroit, operates a titanium processing and manufacturing facility. The facility is proposing to permit existing processes at their facility and add to their existing powders manufacturing process. The purpose of the public comment period and virtual public hearing, if requested, are to allow all interested parties the opportunity to comment on proposed air permit No. 549-97B, in accordance with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendations designed to help slow the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The public is encouraged to review information about the proposed project and present comments on the proposed permit at any time before the end of the comment period. Key documents are available in Arabic. There are several ways to submit comments on this proposed permit.
- In writing: Comments should be mailed to Annette Switzer, Permit Section Manager, EGLE, AQD, P.O. Box 30260, Lansing, Michigan, 48909-7760.
- Via email: Email EGLE-AQD-PTIPublicComments@michigan.gov. Prior to making a comment, it is a good idea to “View an Example” of how to do it.
- Via voicemail: Call 517-284-0900.
If requested in writing by July 31, 2020, a virtual information session and public hearing will be held on August 4, 2020 starting at 6 p.m. with information on how to attend published on Air Quality Division’s (AQD) public notice website. If requested, the virtual public hearing will be preceded by an informational session.
All statements received during the public comment period will be considered by the application’s decision-maker prior to a final ruling being made on the proposed permit. Once all comments are considered, the decision-maker may approve the permit as written, approve it with changes, or deny the permit.
Individuals without internet access and who are interested in receiving printed copies of the documents related to the proposed permit or who need accommodations or other assistance to effectively participate in the hearing should contact Christine Klaver at 517-284-6793 or klaverc2@michigan.gov.
