Got a minute? Watch this video and learn what you can and cannot burn in Michigan. Open burning regulations can be very confusing. There are some materials that are legal to burn, but many are not. These rules are in place to protect you and the environment.
Homeowners, local governments and fire departments can find information dealing with the potential health effects of burning, information about creating a model burning ordinance, as well as how to properly conduct a fire suppression training at www.michigan.gov/openburning. You can also find out if you need a burn permit if you would like to burn materials legally by going to www.michigan.gov/burnpermit. Subscribe to see more MDEQ Minute videos and other educational video content from the MDEQ at www.youtube.com/MichiganDEQ. If you have questions about this video, open burning or burn permits, please contact Jenifer Dixon at dixonj2@michigan.gov.
