New DEQ Drug Disposal web page launched

Unwanted Meds video screenshotIn concert with the April 30th Drug Enforcement Agency National Take Back Event, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality launched a new Drug Disposal Web Page today at www.michigan.gov/deqdrugdisposal.

The web page highlights the DEQ’s commitment to increasing awareness regarding proper disposal of unwanted medications. The web page provides information on household drug takeback locations across the state. It also connects healthcare providers with valuable resources about proper drug disposal.

Proper drug disposal is important because it helps protect human health and our environment. Unwanted drugs should not be flushed down the drain. Medications should always be kept secure to prevent unlawful use. When they are no longer needed, they should be sent for incineration to destroy the chemicals within the drugs and prevent them from entering the water resources we use for drinking water.

Take 2 minutes to view our short video and learn more about proper disposal of unwanted medications at www.michigan.gov/deqdrugdisposal.
