The first Michigan Civil Rights Commission meeting of 2025 will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Suite L-150 of Cadillac Place, 3054 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48202.
At the January meeting, Commissioners are expected to elect officers for the year ahead and establish committees to examine priority issue areas. The January meeting will be the first for newly appointed Commissioner Rev. Richard White III. Earlier this month, Governor Whitmer re-appointed current Commission Chair Gloria Lara to a second term and Pastor White to a four-year term succeeding Commissioner Richard Corriveau, whose term is expiring.
New Commissioner: Rev. Richard White III
Rev. Richard White III, of Detroit, is a pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Detroit and president of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity. He also serves as the 3rd vice moderator for the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist District Association.
Pastor White has served in multiple organizational capacities for a number of groups, including: multiple leadership roles within the Fellowship District Congress of Christian Education; general secretary for the Baptist, Missionary and Educational State Convention of Michigan; treasurer and financial secretary for the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity; and financial secretary for Kingdom Building Pastors and People International.
Pastor White holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in theology from the Tennessee School of Religion. Richard White III is appointed as a member who represents Democrats for a term commencing January 1, 2025, and expiring December 31, 2028.
