Two days ago, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights hosted the 2024 Civil Rights Summit on Fair Housing. The event gathered 300 attendees, including fair housing groups, civil and human rights organizations, mortgage lending businesses, and real estate professionals. During the course of the day, we discussed many fair housing topics and related solutions.
I am proud to say that in addition to the successful event itself, we were able to create a series of policy recommendations to move fair housing forward. Watch this newsletter and follow us on social media (@micivilrights) for specific opportunities to join us in our efforts to fight against discrimination and bias in housing.
I offer sincere thanks to all our attendees, speakers, organizers, staff, and sponsors.
Next Steps:
Right now MDCR is compiling photos, preparing videos, and reviewing both hearing testimony and Summit notes to produce a summary report including policy recommendations. Watch our YouTube channel (@micivilrights) for videos of Summit panel discussions and keynote speakers, including the address from Governor Whitmer.
From there we will establish working committees, outreach efforts, and task-oriented partnerships based on the suggested solutions.
I am proud of the collaboration and synergies we have accomplished thus far. I cannot wait to see what MDCR and our fair housing partners achieve in the coming months.
