Proposals must be received no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, October 11
The Michigan Craft Beverage Council (MCBC) announced it is accepting research grant proposals for the 2025 research program with a maximum grant award of $40,000. Proposals must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on Friday, October 11, 2024. A full list of the MCBC’s research priorities and evaluation criteria are available online.
New this year, the Council is also accepting education grant proposals. The timeline is the same for research grant applications, and the maximum award is $4,000. These grants support the dissemination of education within Michigan’s craft beverage industry. Education grant guidelines are available online.
All research and education proposals will be reviewed by a joint evaluation committee. This is a competitive process. View timelines and 2025 research grant priorities.

Invasive pest continues to spread within Michigan
LANSING– The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) detected spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) in Wayne County with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirming it as SLF. This confirmation follows an extensive survey across 20 counties, during which MDARD identified additional populations of this invasive pest in Monroe, Wayne, and Oakland counties. While spotted lanternfly had previously been detected in Monroe and Oakland, these surveys revealed new infestations in each location.

The Michigan Craft Distillers Association recently held a membership meeting to introduce executive director Courtney Schut.
Over a 20-year marketing career, Courtney has worked for both national spirit companies and Michigan craft distillers. She has developed a passion for storytelling to build brands, relationships, and business.
At this meeting, MCDA also elected a new board of directors and discussed bylaws and a new membership structure.

Michigan State University Extension is asking members of Michigan's grape and wine industry to participate in a brief survey to gather feedback on how their programs have supported Michigan vineyards and wineries. Member’s insights are crucial to evaluating the success of their educational and outreach programs over the past four years and to identify areas for improvement.
The survey consists of four straightforward questions and should take only a few minutes to complete.

As part of the USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, Hop Growers of Michigan commissioned the building of a new website which will aid brewers in Michigan and beyond in finding Michigan hops for their beer.
