The Michigan Craft Beverage Crop Directory connects craft beverage producers with Michigan grown crops. More than 50 farms are currently listed, with crops including botanicals, wine grapes, hops, apples, stone fruits, and berries. The directory has now expanded beyond specialty crops to include grains! We are looking for growers of corn, wheat, rye, barley, and many other grain types. Farms are encouraged to submit a free listing to expand into emerging markets with craft distillers, maltsters, and brewers. Crops in the directory are searchable by variety, location, and more.

Funding for the Craft Beverage Grower Directory was made possible by a grant/cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the USDA. No specialty crop block funds were used in expanding the directory to include grain.

Growers and purchasers of grain should become familiarized with the Michigan Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act and the assessment responsibilities of the first purchaser of grain in Michigan. Often the first purchaser of grain is an elevator or food processor, but can also be distillers, brewers, or anyone else purchasing directly from a farmer.
Information about first purchaser requirements can be found at Michigan Corn and Michigan Wheat.

As a small food and farm business owner, applying for funding can be an intimidating process. The Loan Readiness Toolbox for Food and Farm Businesses provides templated resources to support entrepreneurs, such as consumer-packaged goods manufacturers, caterers, restaurants, kitchen incubators, food trucks, and farmers, who are ready to monitor and track their financial records and access financing in the next 18 – 24 months.
