Today a new Wastewater Infrastructure Fund Grant was launched through the Agriculture Development (AgD) Division of MDARD. This program aims to assist the food and agriculture industry to ensure compliance with Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) wastewater regulations under the Groundwater Discharge Permit Program. Eligible companies or projects for this grant include existing agriculture and food processors located in Michigan who are under and Administrative Consent order, compliance and enforcement action, or have a Schedule of Compliance found in a Certificate of Coverage or state Groundwater Discharge Permit from EGLE.
This grant will be ongoing and will accept applications until the over $30 million in funding is exhausted. Each project or company will have to comply with a set of criteria and fill out a pre-application in order to be considered for the reimbursement funding from the grant. The full list of criteria and eligible cost investments can be found on the MDARD Grants and Funding Opportunities website. Only electronic applications will be accepted and can be submitted via MDARD-WIF@michigan.gov.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), along with the MDARD and other regional partners hosted the 231 Food & Beverage Pitch Challenge at the Muskegon Farmers Market.
The competition provided food and beverage companies in Lake, Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana counties an opportunity to pitch their products for a chance to receive customized support service packages that would help start or scale their businesses. Each of the seven businesses that participated at the pitch were awarded support service/technical assistance packages.

LANSING, Mich.—MDARD awarded Value-Added and Regional Food System grants to 24 Michigan producers, processors, and community development organizations. These grants are designed to help retain, expand, attract, or develop agricultural processing in Michigan through targeted investments in technology and equipment, feasibility studies, healthy food access, regional food systems, and urban agriculture.
“I’m proud that MDARD continues to make bold invest into Michigan’s food and agriculture industries,” said Director Dr. Tim Boring. “These investments span our state, highlighting the diverse and expansive opportunities agriculture brings to our growing economy. LorAnn Oils is a supplier of flavorings and food colors for candy, baking ice cream, popcorn, candy molds, extracts, essential oils, specialty ingredients, and bakery emulsions. This Lansing, Michigan-based company started its story in 1962 with a limited distribution of about eight to ten core essential oils available only to pharmacies. LorAnn's business over the past six-plus years has been expanded and offers a wide variety of products to retailers, manufacturers, health practitioners, and home consumers.

Monthly renewal notices will be sent three months prior to a beneficiary’s renewal date starting with June renewals.
