Michigan Governor's Cup Competition Seeks Wine, Mead, and Cider Entries

Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) is excited to announce a partnership with Michigan Wine Collaborative (MWC) to host the 2023 Michigan Governor’s Cup.

BTI will conduct a series of professional blind tastings to rate and rank Michigan-produced wines, meads, and ciders at their Chicago sensory testing facility. Final results will include all entries scores, medal ranks, constructive criticism, Best of Category, Governor’s Case Winners, and the Governor's Cup Winner. These results will be provided to MWC in May, 2023.

Michigan Distilling Grain Summit

Pure Michigan Business Connect, MI Craft Beverage Council, MSU Extension, and MCDA have partnered on an event to connect Michigan farmers and craft distillers. The Michigan Distilling Grain Summit will occur on Wednesday, March 1, in Grand Rapids at New Holland Brewery and Distillery. The event will include informational and educational content and an opportunity to interact with farmers and other suppliers, such as maltsters, in the state. An optional distillery tour and networking event will take place from 1-3. The Summit is free, but registration is required at https://pmbc.connect.space/michigan_distiller/details.


MDARD Announces Value-Added Grant Opportunity

Proposals due by 3 p.m., April 4, 2023

The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) is accepting applications for its latest round of value-added grants. The Value-Added Grant Program is designed to help retain, expand, attract, or develop agricultural processing in Michigan through targeted investments in technology and equipment, feasibility studies, healthy food access, regional food systems, and urban agriculture. Grant proposals must be received by 3:00 p.m. (EST) on April 4, 2023.

The maximum grant award eligible is $100,000 per proposal. Each project will require a minimum 30 percent match. The value-added proposals will be evaluated through a competitive selection process. Applications for grant funds will be asked to outline how the project will impact and produce measurable outcomes for Michigan’s food and agriculture industry.

The department will be hosting an informational webinar on February 9, 2023, from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. www.michigan.gov/mdardgrants for the webinar details, as well as application and grant guidelines.

The 17th annual Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP) is headed back to Grand Rapids in May! This year’s competition will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 710 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
