Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bill 4842 into law, which cuts costs for small Michigan distilleries and supports Michigan grain farmers. House Bill 4842 assists Michigan's growing craft distillery industry by lowering mark-up costs associated with the purchase of Michigan grain, increasing the number of bottles distillers can produce while saving them and their customers money.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) Pure Michigan Business Connect, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), and the Michigan State University (MSU) Product Center are partnering with Meijer to connect their market format stores (Bridge Street, Capital City, Rivertown and Woodward Corner) to Michigan food and beverage suppliers through a local vendor event in Lansing. The event includes a presentation from Meijer market format store directors on how vendors can do business with their stores, resources available through the partner group and pre-scheduled, one-on-one meetings with vendors and buyers/category managers. It will be held in August and is invite-only to include Michigan businesses Meijer has pre-selected for participation. Interested businesses should apply by July 15.

Michigan State University, Craft Beverage Analysis Lab
Nicole has been involved in multiple research grants coordinated through Michigan State University, including a project involving diacetyl metabolism in fruit beers, analysis of various cereal grains for distilling, and a project focusing on corn analysis for distilling.
Nicole’s work also includes building infrastructure for a fermented beverage analysis lab at MSU, an analytical component of many research projects funded through the Michigan Craft Beverage Council. Analytics are also available as a fee-for-servicefor craft beverage companies. Samples can be anything from raw materials to final product. For information about pricing, contact Nicole directly.

MDARD awarded Value-Added and Regional Food System grants to 18 Michigan producers, processors, and community development organizations. These grants help to retain, expand, attract, or develop agricultural processing in the state through targeted investments in technology and equipment, feasibility studies, healthy food access, regional food systems, and urban agriculture.
