Hemp grower renewal
January 25, 2022
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) would like to remind all currently registered hemp growers their 2021 hemp registrations expire on January 31, 2022.
If intending to grow hemp in 2022, you must renew your registration beforehand. “Growing” hemp also includes propagating, drying, storing, conducting research, and selling harvested hemp to licensed hemp processor-handlers or licensed processors under the Medical Marijuana Facilities Licensing Act. “Growing” does NOT include selling intermediary or in-process hemp, smokable flower, or finished hemp products, including hemp clones, transplants, and seed. If you are involved in these activities, you must obtain a processor license.
Remember, hemp registration renewal applications postmarked after January 31 are assessed a $250 late fee.
Renewal packets were mailed to all currently registered growers in early December to the mailing address listed on their 2021 grower registration application. If you did not receive your packet, please contact the MDARD Central Licensing Unit at 1-800-292-3939, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
