Hemp grower application renewals
December 17, 2021
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development mailed hemp grower renewal applications the week of December 13, 2021. If you held a grower registration in 2021, it is valid through January 31, 2022. If you plan on performing hemp grower activities beyond that date, complete the renewal application and return it postmarked no later than January 31, otherwise you will incur a late fee. In addition, you will need to obtain a fingerprint-based FBI criminal history report within 60 days of submitting your application. More information can be found in the renewal application instructions included with the application.
As a reminder, activities requiring grow registration include the following:
- Planting, propagating, cultivating, and harvesting hemp plants or viable seed
- Storing or drying hemp
- Possessing live plants or viable seed on premises where the hemp will be grown
- Growing hemp for purposes of conducting research
- Selling raw industrial hemp to a licensed hemp processor-handler or medical processor licensed by the Marijuana Regulatory Agency
For new applicants not registered in 2021, you can complete an initial hemp grower application, posted online here. Again, do NOT use this application if you are renewing a 2021 registration. Registrations will not be issued to firms which owe sampling or testing fees or fines. If you have questions about the application, please call 517-284-5771 or email mdard-clu@mdard.michigan.gov. Questions about laws or the hemp program can be directed to 248-521-0501 or MDARD-IndustrialHemp@Michigan.gov.
